Queensland Flood Assistance - Thankyou

February, 2011.

Thank you everyone who has promised and sent donations already. I know that there is much more being made and sent to us through the overwhelming compassion and generosity of Australians. When we open the packages arriving daily we think of the kindness being sent with them.

We are now gathering information from our many Affiliated Groups, members and sponsoring businesses in affected areas. As they live and work in these areas, we are using this network to assess the need for these donations and to distribute them.

The January floods in Queensland caused terrible loss and grief for a lot of people. Queensland Quilters Inc. is organizing the collection and distribution of comfort quilts for flood sufferers.

We would appreciate the donation of finished quilts and tops not yet quilted. The preferred sizes range from 1m x 1.50m (40”x60”) to 1.2m x 1.80m (48”x72”) but any size you are able to give is appreciated. We would also appreciate good sized cotton backing fabrics.

We are also offering some financial assistance to our Affiliated Groups making quilts and we anticipate that they will use these funds to purchase requirements within their local communities. So far we have 20 groups across the state involved in making and sending out quilts.

Please send all donations and contributions to:

Queensland Quilters Inc, GPO Box 2841, Brisbane 4001.

Sincerely

Kim Boland

Queensland Flood Assistance

Many of our groups and members are being affected by these floods which daily are getting more damaging and wide spread. I sincerely hope that no one has to endure the loss of lives.

I have emailed groups which can be contacted via this method and phoned or written to all of the others. Every group affiliated with QQ is being contacted to see what help is required in their areas.

So far, the Emerald and Bundaberg groups have replied. They are contacting all of their members to find out what is needed and where to send it.

The first thing to do is to make a cash donation to any of the major charities which will be on the ground in these disaster areas.

I suggest that you all start making quilts as I am sure that these will be needed to provide comfort. There have been suggestions of packs of various types. As I hear of what is needed I will post it on the QQ website and Scquilters network.

If you are affected or if you know of others who need help, please contact me and I will spread the word.

Our thoughts are with all of you at this time.

New Premises

Welcome to 2011. QQ is on the move. A new year brings an exciting new start, beginning with new meeting premises.

From February, 2011 our new base is at the Wellers Hill Bowls Club, 34 Esher Street, Tarragindi; a larger day meeting hall with 200 seats, larger library area, more inclusive night meeting area, larger car park, better venue access and a very good PA system.

Monthly gatherings continue to be held on the second Tuesday of the month.

The new starting times are 10.30am and 7.00pm .

2qAq meetings continue on the last Saturday of the month at 1.00pm.

The first monthly meeting for 2011 is on 8 February.

The Library and tea/coffee facilities will be available for one hour prior to and following the day meeting and for half an hour prior to the night meeting.

Daytime doors open at 9.30am and after the meeting ‘sit & share'/workshops will follow.

Nighttime doors open at 6.30 pm and activities/demonstrations will be included in the meeting time.

We return to taking care of our own tea and coffee - BYO mug. A roster system will operate. The roster will be circulated so that everyone can have a turn at helping.

There is no on site catering – BYO lunch

It is located a short walk from the Brisbane City Council Bus Route 120, Sexton Street stop.

For the drivers, the UBD reference is map 180 G13. The freeway exit southbound is # 8 and northbound #9.

Larger premises mean an increase in the rent. The door entry is now $5.00.

We are all excited by the possibilities the new premises will offer and look forward to welcoming you in February.

Kim Boland
