Queensland Quilters Inc. is a non-profit organisation, which was incorporated on 16 August 1988 from an organisation Guild that was formed on 9 February 1984 in Brisbane. We are governed by a set of model rules.

In our activities our objectives are:

  • To promote the art and craft of patchwork and quilting.
  • To bring together people interested in patchwork and quilting.
  • To encourage and maintain high standards of workmanship and design in both traditional and contemporary work.
  • To foster interest in the history of patchwork and quilting.
  • To organise and mount major/minor exhibitions each year.
  • To welcome members and guests to monthly general meetings.
  • To maintain and expand a library of books.
  • To present workshops, tutored by Australian and international quiltmakers and fibre artists.
  • To publish an informative quarterly newsletter - "Material Facts".

Meetings

We meet on the second Tuesday of every month except January; day gatherings start at 10.00am, evening gatherings start at 7.30pm. (The annual picnic is held in place of the May day gathering and is hosted by one of our affiliated groups.)

The location is Greenslopes Lawn Bowls Club, 131 Ridge Street, Greenslopes (refer to the map below).

We have guest speakers at most meetings, and mini workshops are occasionally offered.
Bring your handwork with you, some show and tell and a mug for your coffee or tea.
The library is open for borrowing at both day and evening gatherings.

Stay and join the informal sit and sew group following the day gathering!

Quilt Valuation Service

Why have quilts valued?

Insurance companies require an authorized valuation in the event of a claim for a quilt lost in fire, flood, robbery etc. You may also consider having a quilt valued if it is to be raffled, presented as a gift or as a donation. Groups and individuals, members and non-members of Queensland Quilters Inc. can apply to have quilts valued. All quilts, in good condition, can be valued. At this stage antique quilts are not able to be valued. You will receive a numbered Valuation Certificate showing a brief description of the quilt and the ascertained value.

Each quilt costs $16.50 for members of Queensland Quilters Inc. or $27.50 for non-members. The quilt owner is responsible for all expenses relating to the packing, transportation and insurance of work in transit to and from Queensland Quilters Inc.

Valuations are held approximately bimonthly. To make a booking please phone the Valuation Convenor, Faye Clark, on 3410 7444. Then complete and forward the application form, along with the appropriate fee, at least 14 days prior to the valuation day. The form must be accompanied by 4 colour photos of the full quilt which are retained for reference by Queensland Quilters Inc. Quilts which are posted must be in a strong reusable container and must also include return postage.

It is recommended that valuations of important quilts be regularly updated to maintain full cover for insurance purposes.

Teacher Accreditation

Queensland Quilters runs a program of certification which recognises competency to teach basic patchwork and quilting skills. If you have been a member for at least a year you can apply. For further details, contact the Teacher Accreditation Panel Convenor, Sue Duffy, on 3203 7195.

See the classes currently being offered by our accredited teachers.

Challenge

The exhibition launch and prize giving for the 2007 biennial challenge took place on 22 May 2007. See details and photos of the winning quilts.

All quilts entered in the challenge by the deadline date were professionally photographed and appear on a 24 month calendar which is available for purchase for only $7 per calendar (or 3 for $20).

The quilts are now available to tour state-wide, nationally and internationally.

If you would like to see these quilts in your town, please contact Helen Forrest on 3284 9107 or via email - challenge@qldquilters.com.
