QUEENSLAND QUILT SHOW 2008

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

  1. Entrants (with the exception of Category 5 and 6) must be individual financial members of Queensland Quilters Inc. as at 31st August, 2008.
  2. A quilt is defined as three (3) layers of fabric held together at regular intervals by stitching or some other means. Quilts may be entered for display or judging up to a maximum size of 300cm x 300cm.
  3. No more than four (4) quilts may be entered for judging and each must be in a different category.
  4. All entries, except those in categories 7, 11 and 13 must be the total work of the entrant, including piecing and/or applique, quilting and binding and must be constructed either by hand or on a domestic machine. No kit quilts permitted for judging.
  5. With the exception of sections 5 and 6, entry fees must accompany all entry forms. The fees are:- 1 quilt $10; 2 quilts $15; 3 quilts $20; 4 quilts $25. These prices are for judged or display quilts. Payment can be made by cash, cheque or credit card.
  6. Closing date for the return of Entry Forms is 9th September, 2008. This date will be strictly adhered to. Instructions for the delivery and return of quilts will be advised after the receipt of entry forms, by the end of September 2008. Failure to comply with these instructions could mean withdrawal of entry.
  7. Quilts MUST have an 8cm (3¼") finished depth rod pocket sewn securely to the top of the back of the quilt to facilitate hanging. If quilts do not have these they will not be hung. EACH quilt must have a named, ample sized CLOTH bag. Plastic bags are not acceptable. Quilts sent by post must also be in a strong re-usable box (in addition to the cloth bag). Rolled quilts must fit into a standard car and measure no longer than 1.20 metres.
  8. A label must be attached securely to the back of the quilt and clearly state the quilt title, year made and the exhibitor’s name address and phone number. It is the responsibility of the entrant to ensure that any signatures, naming or identification on the front of the quilt are covered.
  9. Forward freight will be paid by the entrant. Return standard mail will be paid by Queensland Quilters Inc. Quilts not collected within two (2) weeks will be returned post collect.
  10. Queensland Quilters Inc. accepts no responsibility for any loss, damage or destruction of items, however caused, in transit or while these items remain their custody. Insurance cover is the responsibility of the entrant.
  11. Queensland Quilters Inc. reserves the right to photograph or permit to be photographed or recorded, any or all items for records, publication and for other appropriate purposes.
  12. The quilt maker is responsible for obtaining written permission and for paying any fee related to the use of copyright material including trademarks. A copy of the permission must accompany the quilt.
  13. Quilts must have been completed in the previous 2 years and be clean and in good order and condition. Queensland Quilters Inc. reserves the right to reject any unfinished or substandard work.
  14. One colour photograph of each quilt must accompany the entry forms. Please mark all photographs with entrant's name and quilt name. Photos are not returned.
  15. Quilts sold will be subject to 10% of the sale price as commission plus a 6% credit card surcharge if applicable.
  16. Quilts must be a single unit and not framed in wood, metal etc.
  17. A Professional Quilter is defined as:
    • someone who makes a livelihood from teaching or publishing in the fields of patchwork and quilting;
    • someone who makes financial gain from selling and designing and participating in the making of quilts;
    • someone who has won Best of Show or 2 blue ribbons in any major judged competition, excluding Viewers' Choice.
    Having exhibited as a professional amateur status cannot be resumed.

    A major judged competition is defined as a State or Territory Guild judged exhibition or competition, a National, or International competition or exhibition.

    Financial gain is defined as any amount above the cost of creating the quilt i.e. cost of creating the article, design, teaching aids, including samples, notes and travel expenses.
  18. All quilts made entirely by one person and entered for judging will be considered for Best of Show; with the exception of categories 5, 6, 7, 11 and 13. If a quilt has won a Best of Show award in any other major competition or exhibition it is still eligible for a blue ribbon and any of the other special prizes.

    The 'Best of Show' quilt will be eligible for the Australian National Quilt Award sponsored by Bernina Australia and must be made available to tour other State and Territory exhibitions throughout 2009.
  19. A Judges' Choice recognition will be awarded to quilts individually nominated by each of the three Judges. There is no cash or goods prize associated with this award.
  20. For the purpose of this competition, an ART quilt is to be of an original design with no similarity to the works of another Artist.
  21. 'Commercially Quilted Quilts' are defined as quilts which have been quilted on a long-arm, industrial machine or machine quilting system or where payment has been made.
  22. Prizes awarded in all categories are to be made to the entrant/owner only. All contributors must be acknowledged.
  23. Quilts submitted for 'Display Only' (i.e. not judged) are to comply with the respective category size specifications. Please select an appropriate category for each entry, even if you are not submitting a quilt for judging, as this will assist in designing the layout of the exhibition.
  24. Category 4, the First Time Entrant award, is for a member entering the judged Quilt Show for the first time.
  25. If a quilt has been entered into another Queensland Quilters competition, this makes it ineligible for entry. This includes quilts for display and sale.
  26. The Judges' decision is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.
