Challenge – Overview

For more than 30 years, Queensland Quilters Inc has chosen fabric from a generous sponsor for its annual Fabric Challenge. Members use the selected fabric to make a three-layer quilt measuring 50 cm x 70 cm, in portrait or landscape format. The challenge encourages creative use of the fabric so it is not immediately recognisable, whether in traditional, modern or art quilt styles. It usually attracts 30–35 entries, judged on originality, quilting, use of colour and related criteria.

Janome and Queensland Quilters Inc donate the much sought-after prizes and rosettes. Completed quilts are displayed at regional and other quilt shows, including the Queensland Quilt Show at the Brisbane Convention Centre. They remain a popular and varied attraction for quilting and non-quilting audiences alike.
