Queensland Quilters Inc. is a not for profit organisation with the objectives of promoting the art and craft of patchwork and quilting, bringing together people interested in patchwork and quilting, encouraging and maintaining high standards of workmanship and design in both traditional and contemporary work, and organising exhibitions and workshops.

Rajah Award 2024
“The 2024 Rajah Award for an outstanding contribution to quilting in Australia goes to Lorraine Carthew!!!”
This award acknowledges an outstanding contribution to quilting in Australia, whether it be a contribution as a quilting teacher, designer, author, historian, guild worker, retailer, or a combination of work in several of these areas.
This award is called the ‘Rajah Award’ in tribute to the historic Rajah quilt made by convict women on their way to Australia in 1841.
Our congratulations to Lorraine on her well-deserved award.

Special Interest Groups
2QApp is a social group of members with a common interest in applique and other hand work e.g. English paper piecing, hand piecing etc.
We meet twice a month and usually have either a ‘Topic of Discussion’ eg: Different ways to create stems, or a Guest Speaker. Most of the meetings are social, sewing on your own project and chatting to other members. Show and Tell is a major component of each meeting with lots of sharing ideas and techniques. Questions are encouraged, as we have members of all skill levels who are willing to share.
All members of Qld Quilters are welcome and you can come to either or both days. Bring along your sewing, tools/equipment and a packed lunch (fridge & microwave facilities available) or there are a number of local coffee shops that you may wish to visit. Tea and coffee is provided, BYO cup.
As we are a social group, our 2QApp gatherings are a way to meet others that you may have not met or spoken to at a members meeting. Visitors are welcome to attend one meeting or gathering before becoming an individual member of Qld Quilters Inc.

2QAQ is the Queensland Quilters Art Quilters and through this special interest group, we wish to promote art quilts by providing a variety of experiences and inspiration through demonstrations, guest speakers, challenges and projects.
We eagerly share our knowledge and skills and all members of Queensland Quilters are welcome to come along to our gatherings. Contact us and we will let you know what’s happening and what to bring along to our next meeting. Visitors are welcome to attend one meeting or gathering before becoming an individual member of Qld Quilters Inc.

Modern Quilting is a new and developing contemporary style of patchwork & quilting, and we encourage all from novices through to established quilters of all ages, to be inspired and develop their skills within their craft. With this new style of patchwork and quilting, along with the development and sharing of skills, the development of a “community” also plays a large part, so we felt it was important to provide an opportunity for existing and new members to get involved.
Our Modern Quilt group meets on the second Saturday of each month for what can be a full day of fun sewing. All members are invited to attend these days. These are usually more fun, social days where you can sit, sew and share with other members, so bring along a current project to work on, be it Modern or not.
Most afternoons, after lunch, there will also usually be guest speakers, discussions or mini workshops on different techniques or methods happening and to get involved in if you want to. More details on these topics for each meeting are listed below. Whilst the meeting goes from 10am till 4pm, you are welcome to come for the full day of sewing, or join us at any time for just part of it if you want to.
What to Bring: You are welcome to bring along your sewing machines, cutting equipment & any other tools you require to work on your project. (Extension cords and irons are available at the meeting for you to use.) We also encourage you to bring along any Show & Tell to share with the group. As this is also a longer meeting than most, we also suggest you bring along some lunch, if you plan to stay the whole meeting, and a coffee mug to enjoy the provided morning & afternoon tea.
