2QAQ – Art Quilters

2QAQ is the Queensland Quilters Art Quilters and through this special interest group, we wish to promote art quilts by providing a variety of experiences and inspiration through demonstrations, guest speakers, challenges and projects.

We eagerly share our knowledge and skills and all members of Queensland Quilters are welcome to come along to our gatherings. Contact us and we will let you know what’s happening and what to bring along to our next meeting. Visitors are welcome to attend one meeting or gathering before becoming an individual member of Qld Quilters Inc.

Bring along your sewing & any tools/equipment you need. Tea and coffee is provided, BYO cup.

Join us – you’ll have fun with like-minded quilters and artists.

QLD QUILTERS ART QUILTERS (2QAQ) CHALLENGE 2019

The theme for 2019 is COLOUR.    A colour has been allocated for each month of the year to inspire the creation of a mini textile quilt/artwork with a maximum size of 10×10 inches.

Definition of textile quilt/artwork for this challenge is a minimum of 2 layers, held together at any intervals, and may include mixed media or three dimensional properties.

The idea of the monthly challenge is that members do not have to commit to a larger work, and can opt in/out and experiment throughout the year as time permits, perhaps using techniques discussed at that month’s meetings or any other inspiration they have.

Each month, as part of show and tell at the 2QAQ meeting, the works for the colour of that month will be displayed.  You can, of course, bring in pieces from previous months or the current months’ work in progress.   (Please note: January/February colours are due at the February meeting and November/December colours are due at the November meeting.)

Other colours are able to be used in the piece, however it must be obvious that the theme of the piece relates to the colour of the month or that the colour of the month features significantly. (Eg ORANGE – may be a piece of fruit, a range of colours from apricot to rust, or include the use of other colours to make the orange ‘pop’ in a piece)

You may wish to work to a consistent size and theme throughout the year (eg 4×6, 5×5, 6×8, 8×8 inch) or complete each monthly challenge in an ad hoc fashion – maximum size for challenge pieces is 10×10 inches with the exception of the RAINBOW SWAP which is to be Postcard size 4x6inches.

The special challenge will be the November “rainbow” one.  Those that wish to join in, can participate in a swap of their rainbow piece, (or one of their other pieces from throughout the year) at the 2QAQ Xmas meeting,…..a nice way to end the year and perhaps get a piece of someone else’s work to admire. The swap piece is to be 4×6 inches. (You can do two rainbow pieces if you wish – one to keep and the other to swap.)

There will be lots of little artworks to show at the end of the year.  Members can choose to keep each work as a separate piece, frame them, send as postcards, make them into books, join works together as a quilt or use any other technique they wish.

It is hoped that members will allow pieces to be borrowed and displayed on the 2QAQ stand at the Craft & Quilt Fair.

Most of all, the important thing is to have fun, enjoy the experience and perhaps challenge yourself to work outside your usual colour schemes and boundaries.
